It worked!

Score!! 500+ words tonight, and new brilliant ideas!

I'm ready for bed, but just put a load of darks in the washer (including the pants I want to wear tomorrow) and so had to wait to go to bed until I can switch it. (I'm going to check momentarily.)

So I decided it's a good time to write, right? Since I've put it off til the end of the day, anyway.. I'm especially tickled about it because today was my first post at [info]handsonkeyboard, and I just committed to writing for at least 15 minutes a day.

I guess the magnetic magic of committing to something really pulled through. That was fast! I thought of a great scene for my Jaurin story that solves a problem I'd had, and wrote on it for about 40 minutes instead of 15 (whereas the last few days I've gotten only a trickle at a time), and it came to more than 500 words. (Did I mention it's just made the story richer and more dangerous and interesting, towards the beginning where I'd been worried about it being boring?) XD

Here's hoping tomorrow goes just as well. I love it when pieces fall into place like this!

Update

I...have been so remiss in updating LJ. I don't have a lot of time tonight, but I shall try to correct this fail as best I can!

My time in NY was looovely~ I spent just about every waking moment with [info]vampydirector (and her cats), which was amazing ♥. The weather prevented us from visiting [info]squeakchan and [info]taelow on Monday, but we were able to make it out there on Wednesday. We only got to hang out with Star for a little bit during her break from work, but I was soooo glad to see her (and her adorable baby-bump ♥!), and her husband introduced us to LittleBigPlanet, which is an odd yet interesting game. Then Jchan, Squeak, and I saw The Princess and the Frog together, which was a super-adorable movie, and I can't think of two better people to watch cute and amusing Disney goodness with ♥! We went back to Squeak's after that, where her friend Brooks joined us and introduced us to the wonderfulness that is Mag Blast. It took me back to my days at college playing Munchkin. Awesome game! Also, I won. Bwahaha!

New Year's Eve was exciting! Jchan and I made cookies, which is a big step for me >.> Squeak and Star came over that evening, and there was more Mag Blast! I won again, and then Star murdered me really quickly the next round XD. We took a break at midnight to briefly celebrate, and then I fell asleep in a chair while the game continued...oops. But at least I woke back up so we could watch The Infinite Quest?

New Year's morning was waffles and then good-byes, as Squeak and Star had to head back. I got to hang out with Jchan some more before heading to the airport that afternoon. I was caught by an icky delay, but I wasn't too late getting home. And the flight was really empty because so many people with connecting flights had been rescheduled to the next morning ^^;

After that, Meagan and I went over to [info]yumechandesu's on Saturday. Oh my gosh, Sammy gave me Shinesman on DVD XD! We convinced Meagan to watch the dub with us, and that was terribly amusing. We also played Super Mario Bros. Wii, which we all fail at. So. MISERABLY. It was utterly awesome, yet horrible. And it was so good to hang out with them again ♥!

Saturday night was a DW marathon, culminating in End of Time, part 2. I'm still emotionally reeling from that one. And some commentary with spoilers )

So other than that, Jchan also got me to watch Glee. At first I was skeptical--it seemed a bit too nuts--but I somehow grew attached as we continued. It is so goofy and amusing and such a soap opera--with really good music. I'm looking forward to more eps!

And otherwise, I'm back at work now. I also went to the doctor and am working on getting my ear fixed, which I'm sure a few of you will be glad to hear. And that's about it! On which note, I should be in bed. Back to 4:30 wake-ups :P Love you guys ♥!

Christmas

Not only is the universe stranger than we imagine, it is stranger than we can imagine.
- Sir Arthur Eddington

Well, it's been a while since I posted. I haven't been super-active on LJ lately from being out of town a lot and busy other times (for instance, since I would be / had been out of town, I would stay late at work in order to make up time, and then rush off to whatever activity was happening that I had to leave work for, and then be tired and go to bed), and also since training myself to think in not over-often updates of 140 characters or less (i.e. Twitter) has left little room for thought-out posts here.

Anyway. Christmas break was lovely. It was nice to spend the days sleeping til 9, playing Rock Band (luckily there are almost always people home/interested at my house to play together), watching the niece for hours (actually watching her, not babysitting - she's so amusing! And she dances!), etc. I saw "Avatar" after all, along with "Sherlock Holmes," "Surrogates" at the dollar theater, and "Confessions of a Shopaholic," "Easy Virtue," and "Night at the Museum 2" from Redbox. I enjoyed all of them, though Easy Virtue was something of a disappointment. Sadness.

I also finished S1 of "Castle" (need to catch up on S2 now), and spent a long time watching "Lie to Me," which my brother wanted to share with me. I admit, it's really quite fun. I like all the characters, and I think I'll keep up with it now. Also, I'm really impressed by the way Dr. Foster dresses, and I'm thinking I may try some of the styles she wears and see how they suit me. Adjusting for sleeves.

Today, for instance, I wore a new top (ivory scoopneck with crisscross draped front and cap sleeves - that I got from a catalog.. incidentally, it's the only item in my $150 order that I'm keeping, and it was only 8 bucks), tucked into a black knee-length skirt with black knee boots, and it was very cute and sophisticated. Oh, and I got my hair cut last week-ish.. Took 6 inches off and had side bangs and long layers re-cut.. but not many people have noticed it. That's okay. It just makes me feel more stylish. I even wore lip gloss today.

...That's all I feel like writing just now. I've got to switch my laundry and put clean sheets on my bed. Maybe I should change out of the skirt for that.. it's hard enough making up the monstrosity that is Tromso without having to be ladylike. I was going to talk about goals I made today, but I'll do that later.

Tadaima!

I'm home! Later than planned, but not too bad by any means.

I have so much unpacking to do, and then I'm heading out to Sammy's tomorrow morning. Life is crazy. Work starts again on Monday! *flails*

Also, thank you for the Christmas card, [info]frozen_yogurts! It was lovely ♥. We definitely need to continue keeping in better contact!

And, to everybody, HAPPY NEW YEAR ♥!

Jaurin progress

Including the snippets that I'd previously written for [info]caer_awen, I'm doing rather well on the Jaurin story! Word count really doesn't matter much at this point, since it's going to change a LOT after the first draft is written, and I'm only really on chapter 2 and there's quite a long way to go yet.. but still! The numbers make me feel good.

10175 / 80000

Also, my brother installed the touchpad drivers on my laptop, so I'm having *way* too much fun scrolling up and down with it. I thought it wasn't capable of that. X3

Phantom Menace

I was catching up on Twitter last night, and someone posted a link to this article, "Great Storytelling 101 (or: We've Forgotten How to Tell Stories)" from Writer's Digest.

The article linked a video review of Star Wars: Episode One that, if you can get past the annoying narration and a few inappropriate references, picks apart the movie in astounding clarity. I'd remembered Episode One rather fondly (it was quite pretty, and so was Ewan McGregor), but that review made me realize that I'd never actually thought about the movie critically before. Amazing! (Granted, I haven't seen it in probably ten years..) Anyway, the whole review is about 70 minutes long, but it's worth a watch.
